Red Sox Sending Eduardo Rodriguez Down To Triple-A

Jun 28, 2016 7:13 AM

The Boston Red Sox are sending Eduardo Rodriguez to Triple-A Pawtucket after he allowed nine runs in less than three innings against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Rodriguez made his season debut about a month ago after beginning the season on the disabled list.

"Felt like he was back to a place after his start five days ago that would carry him through," John Farrell said. "They bunched a number of hits together. They squared up a number of pitches tonight. It was disappointing."

Rodriguez went 10-6 with a 3.85 ERA in 21 starts as a rookie last year.

Cubs Plan To Use Three-Catcher Rotation

Jun 21, 2016 7:21 AM

The Chicago Cubs have created a plan to use a three-catcher rotation with Miguel Montero catching Jake Arrieta, David Ross catching Jon Lester and Willson Contreras possibly catching the teams other starters.

Contreras, who was promoted over the weekend, got his first Major League start on Monday.

"If we can get Contreras two out of five, possibly a three spot once in a while, I think that can keep him somewhat solvent," Joe Maddon said.

Montero has been struggling offensively and defensively, creating an opportunity for Contreras.

"If he does [take the job], it's for the right reasons," Montero said. "He's young, full of excitement, lots of energy. It's all good, especially because it's Willson."

David Ortiz Hits 521st Career Home Run

Jun 20, 2016 7:46 AM

Even now, after all these years, David Ortiz has so much reverence for the greatest hitter in Red Sox history that he refuses to refer to Ted Williams without attaching the prefix "Mr."

And so, after belting his 521st career home run Friday night and tying the Splendid Splinter for 19th on the all-time list, Big Papi made sure to retrieve the ball.

"It's a good ball to keep, trust me," Ortiz said after the Red Sox lost 8-4 to the Mariners at Fenway Park. "The gentleman who caught it, he was very generous. He wanted me to autograph a bat for him, and I did."
